Psychiatric facilities were made by the Government to treat people with mental health conditions. These include psychopaedic hospitals (such as Kimberley Hospital and the Templeton Centre) to treat people with intellectual disabilities.
You can make a claim to the Ministry of Health’s Historic Abuse Resolution Service if:
you experienced abuse while under the care of a government-run psychiatric or psychopaedic facility and
the abuse happened before 1 July 1993.
Survivors of abuse at the Lake Alice Child and Adolescent Unit can apply for a torture redress through the Crown Response Office. Learn more about this redress package.open_in_new
