Oranga Tamariki has no records held for Amorangi Adolescent Support Units. However they have some records on Amorangi Property / Family Home. They also may hold personal records on young people who stayed at Amorangi and whom Department of Social Welfare (DSW) had involvement with. Open Home Foundation should have records about people who stayed at the teen parent home.
Operated as an adolescent support unit/ family home in 1998
Gender: Mixed adolescent
Capacity: 8 beds
Information from Open Home Foundation - from 1994 to 1999 they ran a teen parent home at this address, as a third party provider to the State. This home was primarily a Parenting unit where (typically) young mum’s would come with their babies/toddlers and would first live alongside our House parents for a period of time and then would graduate to the self-contained unit where they could parent with support and supervision close by.
