In 1958 Blackwood House in Herne Bay became the first “Cottage Home”, closed in the 1980s/90s.

There were ownership and purpose changes between 1979 and 1984.

ATWC has documented its history including photos of some entities in the 'Threads of Caring' book which was commissioned by means of a bequest from the estate of Enid Cooper to celebrate the 160 plus years’ history of one of Auckland’s oldest non-government organisations.
Drawing on archival and oral sources, the book delves beneath the institution to the people at its heart and includes the stories of those who came for help, and the commitment and challenges faced by the ATWC’s Christian founders and those who followed them to meet those needs.
