Controlling agency: The Salvation Army Third-party provider to State, faith-based 1979: 25-acre farm. Mainly children who have "broken down in other care situations." Favours "children with problems" – open atmosphere. From The Salvation Army: A nearby Salvation Army-run training farm was approx 1.5km from the Boys' Home and was known variously as Hodderville Training Farm, Hodderville Agricultural School, Putaruru Training Farm. The training farm operated 1920-1962. The Boys' Home and farm were two separate entities. The farm trainees (young men who had left school) lived onsite at the farm. The English Farm Cadet programme operated from 1922 until about 1950-1952 in conjuction with govt. immigration schemes. Note: Oranga Tamariki had this home recorded as closing in 1989 but the Salvation Army's affidavit had it as closing in 1986. I have used the Salvation Army date.
