Threads of Caring - ATWC has documented its history including photos of some entities in the 'Threads of Caring' book which was commissioned by means of a bequest from the estate of Enid Cooper to celebrate the 160 plus years’ history of one of Auckland’s oldest non-government organisations, ‘Thread of Caring’ tells a story that is as relevant today as it was when ATWC began in the 1850s. Drawing on archival and oral sources, Threads of Caring delves beneath the institution to the people at its heart and includes the stories of those who came for help, and the commitment and challenges faced by the ATWC’s Christian founders and those who followed them to meet those needs. An integral part of that caring focus has been, and continues to be, the work (paid and unpaid) of many women who raised funds, provided small luxuries, and supported the ATWC to become the organisation it is today.
