Established as a Native School in 1896 near where Huntly Power Station is today. (Under the Native Schools Act 1867, Māori were required to donate the land for the schools before communities would receive support from the Government to set up a school.) Became a state primary school in 1969. The school was relocated to its current location in 1974. Held contract to provide alternative education for the Waikato region2013-2017, 2019-2021.
