Further information: 1977:The Salvation Army has adapted a number of its children's homes to enable it to provide day care for pre-school children. "The Nest'' in Hamilton and "Cecilia Whatman" in Masterton are examples of Salvation Army children's homes running day care centres in addition to fulltime care of children.
1979: Caters for some children over 7 years. Ultimate authority with Salvation Army H.Q. Tends to short term care - children return to homes when it is satisfactory. This applied to all The Salvation Army Children's Homes, i.e. children returned to their families where possible. Most children in Homes were not orphans.
Note: Oranga Tamariki had this home recorded as operating from 1919-1989, but the Salvation Army's affidavit had it as operating from 1920-1990. I have used the Salvation Army dates.
