Control passed to DSW in early 1974. Further information: Foundation stone laid for new building 14 April 1954. Wesleydale was chosen as the name for the new Home. In 1956 all the children were moved from Auckland Methodist Children's Homes and Orphanage, Mt Albert to Wesleydale Home, Mt Roskill which was divided into boys and girls sections. In the 1960s, family homes were considered preferable and several proposals were made including 1107 Dominion Road. During this period the policy was to keep families intact and more work was done with families in their own homes. A social worker was employed. In 1974 the Board discussed the future of Wesleydale and in 1975 the Ministry of Social Welfare leased the building for a home for special training of boys. On 25 June 1976 the final meeting of the Auckland Methodist Children’s Home Board was held. All properties were transferred to the Auckland Methodist Central Mission.
