Oranga Tamariki holds records about 'Lookout Point Boys' Home' from 1946-1987 and from 'Dunedin Boys' Home' from 1971-2002. Archives NZ (Dunedin) holds records about Dunedin Boys' Home from at least 1974-1991, with Oranga Tamariki as the controlling agency for restricted records.

From 'Orphanages and Children's Homes in Otago and Southland':The Otago Industrial School was originally on the site, opening in January 1869 and closing in 1927. In 1928 the Dunedin Boys' Receiving Home opened on the site. A receiving home accommodated children with the intention of placing them elsewhere.
It closed in 1991 and merged with Dunedin Girls Home to form Elliot Street Residential Centre (later named Puketai Care and Protection Residence). Puketai Care and Protection Residence is still operating.
It appears that, after the closure of the Dunedin Boys' Home, the site was used for the Dunedin Resource Centre (unsure how long it operated for but was closed in 2024).
