Other information: This institution, located in Addington, was founded and administered by the Anglican Church, though most of the children were supported by Government funding.
When the establishment closed in 1870, those children supported by the Government were transferred to the Canterbury Orphanage, in Lyttelton. These buildings were later used as the Charitable Aid House (also known as Selwyn House).
