Hawera High School opened in 1919 on Princes Street. Two years late the school moved to Camberwell Street. It held a contract to provide alternative education for the Taranaki, Whanganui, Manawatū region 2013-2020, 2022. Hawera High School closed at the end of 2022. A new school was opened on the same site, Te Paepae o Aotea.
