Oranga Tamariki holds records about Hillcrest Home from 1981-2022. Oranga Tamariki should also hold personal records on young people who stayed at the institution and whom Department of Social Welfare (DSW) had involvement with.
Operational dates for the Hillcrest Youth Justice Remand Home have been provided by Oranga Tamariki as September 2010-current. However, the dates of records held by Archives NZ and Oranga Tamariki suggest that there was another institution at Hillcrest earlier than this - back to at least 1981 for Oranga Tamariki records, potentially back to the 1960s/1970s for Archives NZ records.
