The process for requesting records or claiming redress varies depending on the organisation (the record holder).
You can ask your case manager to find out what the process is, exactly what information the record holder needs to help them find your records, and where to mail your letter.

Some record holders and redress providers are on the approved phone list, so you can call them from prison.
If you are eligible for redress from Ministry of Social Development (MSD), you can contact MSD to claim redress and get your records at the same time.
You can claim redress from the Ministry of Social Development (MSD) Historic Claims team if you:
‘Coming to the notice of’ one of the above government agencies means having some contact with them that is related to care and protection or welfare.
When you contact the MSD Historic Claims team, you can tell them to give you a copy of your records.

Corrections hold records about people in prisons and Community Corrections (for example custodial, medical, probation, psychological and programme records). They also hold records about people in youth penal institutions, if you were later in the custody of Corrections as an adult.
To request records from Corrections, talk to a Corrections staff member or use the Kiosk at your prison. Find out more about requesting records from Corrections
The organisation you want to request records or information about redress from, may not be on the list of numbers you can call from prison. Or, maybe you would prefer someone else make the request for you.
